SkillMonster is a small, hands-on platform. We personally review every tutor before listing them, and we take concerns seriously when they come in.

Sessions involving minor children

Parental or guardian consent is required for any learner under the age of 18. By booking a session for a minor, the parent or legal guardian confirms they have read these terms and accept responsibility for their child's participation.

We strongly recommend that a parent or guardian be present, or at minimum actively reachable, during any online session involving a child under 13. For learners aged 13–17, parents should exercise their judgement based on the subject and the child's maturity.

SkillMonster sessions take place over Zoom. Parents are encouraged to keep the session visible — either by being in the room or by periodically checking in. Do not leave young children unsupervised with a tutor they have not met before.

Report misconduct immediately. If a tutor behaves inappropriately, makes your child uncomfortable, requests contact outside the session, or does anything that raises concern — stop the session and contact us right away. In cases of suspected abuse or criminal conduct, please also report directly to your local law enforcement or child protection authority. Do not wait.

Platform limitation: SkillMonster facilitates the introduction between learners and independent tutors. We are not present during sessions and cannot monitor live interactions. While we individually review every tutor before listing them, we cannot guarantee the conduct of any individual in a private session. Parental supervision is the most effective safeguard for younger learners.

How we select tutors

Every tutor on SkillMonster is individually reviewed by the SkillMonster team before their profile goes live. We look at their background, expertise, and communication. We do not list tutors we would not personally recommend. This is a small, curated list — not an open marketplace where anyone can sign up.

All sessions take place online via Zoom. We do not facilitate in-person meetings.

Reporting a concern

If something felt wrong during a session — inappropriate behaviour, misleading claims, or anything else — please contact us via the form below. Describe what happened and we will follow up. We respond to safety reports on business days.

Guides who receive substantiated complaints are reviewed and may be removed from the platform. Any report involving a minor is treated with the highest priority.

Your safety is in your hands

No platform can guarantee your safety — and we will not pretend otherwise. SkillMonster introduces you to tutors, but what happens in a session is ultimately between you and the tutor. Please be sensible.

Do not share financial details, passwords, or sensitive personal information with a tutor.
Do not move communication off-platform or to personal social media accounts before you know the person well.
If something feels off — trust that instinct. End the session and reach out to us.
For minors: a parent or guardian should be present or reachable at all times during sessions.
You are responsible for the accuracy of information you provide and for using the platform in good faith.
